History Of Dwight
The first mention of Dwight comes in the year of 1866 in a diary by the late J.P. Dunlap who was one of the first settlers in the area. The diary relates to his trip witha surveying party through the town of Lancaster, which at that time had one small store, two houses, and a blacksmith shop. Lancaster later because Lincoln. The diary says, "The party continued to Oak Creek. We had to build a bridge to cross Oak Creek. We then traveled on toward the west over open prairie, camping for dinner near where Dwight, Nebraska is now."
